Minutes:

The minutes of the previous TCA executive meeting (13th of June 2016) were circulated via e-mail prior to the meeting. No amendments were notified and the minutes were accepted as read and correct.

Matters arising:

As per the agenda all matters arising from the previous TCA Executive Meeting and the Annual General Meeting have been closed. No new matters arising had been notified.

Motions Moved in Advance:

As per the agenda all motions moved in advance by e-mail were carried.

TCA President, Denis McMahon, added some discussion regarding the TCA’s power to use discretion when determining eligibility for titles, siting a ruling made in mid-2000. Commenting that many in the TCA were unaware of this discretionary power, and siting the absence of any formal ruling on Martin Friebe’s eligibility in a TCA meeting, Denis explained that Martin had been retrospectively added to the list of champions for the titles of Tasmanian Lightning Chess Champion (2016), and the Tasmanian Chess Champion (2016).

Launceston Chess Club Affiliation:

LCC President, Martin Friebe, lodged an official request for affiliation with the TCA on Tuesday the 19th of July.

The request for affiliation was read.

MOTION (Denis) That the TCA accept the LCC’s application for affiliation with the TCA. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

Any Other Business:

Fee Waiver for LCC until the 1st of July 2017

MOTION (Ian) The TCA waives all TCA levies for all LCC club based members until the 1st of July 2017. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

Olympiad Fundraising

Kevin Bonham reported on behalf of the Australian Chess Federation that people are encouraged to support the Australian Olympiad team with financial donations made through the appropriate websites and online platforms. No formal donation from the TCA is required, and it is preferred that individuals make donations if they are able to do so.

Targeting Schools to Increase Junior Numbers

Aidan Cox raised the issue of communicating the TCA tournament schedule to schools around the state.  Discussion of the current circumstances surrounding junior participation and the transition of school based juniors into the senior TCA system did not lead to any new ideas at this time.  Junior participation in non-school events remains an ongoing issue that the TCA is aware of and working towards rectifying.
