2025 Australia Day Weekender

Events:

  • The Main Event will be ACF and FIDE rated.
    The time control will be a 60+30 time control.
    The pairing system will be Accelerated Draw (Baku).
    The default time will be 30 minutes.
    Players may claim one half point bye from rounds 1 to 4. Byes must be requested either before the tournament or before the previous round begins.

  • The Blitz Event will be ACF and FIDE rated.
    The time control will be a 3+2 time control.
    The pairing system will be Regular Swiss.
    The default time will be 3 minutes.

  • The Beginner Blitz will be ACF rated.
    The time control will be a 10+2 time control.
    The pairing system will be Regular Swiss.
    The default time will be 10 minutes.
    Although players over 1600 ACF rating are allowed to enter, they are not eligible for prizes.
    This tournament will go for 3 hours. There will be between 5-7 rounds.

  • There will be a running live commentary either by Hobart Chess Club resident coaches or TBC, at the Hobart Chess Club, streaming games from the Main Event, and if available, from the Oceania Zonals.
    This will be open to the public.

Saturday, 25th of January

  • Round 2 - 10:00am

  • Round 3 - 2:30pm

Sunday, 26th of January

  • Round 4 - 10:00am

  • Round 5 - 2:30pm

  • Blitz - 7:00pm

Monday, 27th of January

  • Round 6 - 9:30am

  • Beginner Rapid: 1:00 pm

Entries:

Entry fees must be paid online. Entries to the main event close Thursday, 23 January at 11.59pm

  • Main Event Adults $70 (FM/WFM/IM/WIM/GM/WGM free entry)

  • Main Event Juniors (under 18 years) $50

  • Blitz Event $20

  • Beginner Rapid $10

Early Bird Discounts - Entries to the Main Event before January 1st will grant a $10 discount.
Blitz Discount -
Entering the Blitz will grant a $10 discount to the Main Event.
Main Event Refunds - If you need to cancel your registration for any reason, full refunds will be available up to 3 days prior to close of registration, after which a 50% refund will be available up until registrations close for the Main Event, following which there will be no refunds.
Other Refunds - There are no restrictions on refunds to the Beginner Rapid or Blitz event
Late Entries - Late entries may be accommodated at the Organiser's discretion. (Contact zachariaslim@gmail.com for late entries)

PRIZES:

TBC (Minimum Guaranteed $500.00) across all events*

* Prize Pool will include all entries less operating costs (rating fees, venue hire etc).

FIDE Laws apply – ringing mobiles will incur automatic loss. Entrants agree to abide by all decisions of the organisers and arbiters. The organisers reserve the right to make any changes required.
